Help us protect our Turtles!

During the breeding season (May - October), please
turn off all lights at night ~ lights can frighten
the mama turtles and they will go back to sea
without nesting!

If you find a nesting turtle on the beach please leave her alone. Do not
touch her and do not allow anyone to go within 15 feet of her.

Stay quiet and move slowly until the turtle has gone back to sea.

Reduce nighttime activities on the beach and respect the
marked nests, do not step on them or disturb signs.

Help us protect the Coral too!

Remember, the coral reef is alive!
It is very delicate and if touched it will die.

Kicking sand with your fins smothers the coral and it will suffocate.

Suntan lotions will kill the coral too.
Please wear a t-shirt over your bathing suit when snorkeling instead of using sunblock.

Touching, kicking or standing on the coral will damage or kill it.

Akumal's bays are Federally protected areas. The fines are up to $100,000 USD
and/or 5 years in jail. The law states:
Do not disturb the turtles in any way
No Fishing of any kind
No damaging the reef or coral
No removal of live coral, fauna or flora
No motorized boats
